Introducing our Charity of the Year 2019 – Autism East Midlands

Ellis-Fermor & Negus Solicitors are pleased to announce that our Charity of the Year for 2019-2020 is Autism East Midlands.

Ellis-Fermor & Negus began its Charity of the Year Scheme in 2002. We have supported a number of excellent local charities over the past 17 years, with an aim to support their causes by raising awareness for them in the community.

We are therefore very pleased to partner with Autism East Midlands and help raise awareness and support for those affected by autism.

About Autism East Midlands

Autism East Midlands aims to raise the understanding and awareness of autism. The charity has a mission to provide high quality services, information and support to individuals and families whose lives are affected by autism. They seek to help autistic people live their lives with dignity, choice and independence.

The charity offers varied services including a specialist school, day services and training for parents, carers and professionals. Five schools are situated across Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire offering specialist educational facilities to its students.

Services for Children and Adults

Autism East Midlands provides valuable support to adults and children by creating opportunities to experience new things. These opportunities focus on increasing and challenging independence. More recently, Autism East Midlands have begun offering retreat days and short breaks for adults. These happen in environments with bespoke facilities that consider sensory needs and encourage independence.

For children between the ages of 3 and 19, Autism East Midlands operates a specialist school in Nottingham called Sutherland House School. The charity also offers a support network for families with regular drop-in sessions organised across the region.

Autism East Midlands offers many other specialised services to help families and individuals of all ages to feel supported in their personal situation. The aim is to place people at the forefront of all initiatives to help individuals develop new skills and feel well supported.

Our Partnership

Throughout the year, Ellis-Fermor & Negus will be fundraising and partaking in local events to raise support for Autism East Midlands and contribute to their fantastic work.

Stephen Knott, Head of Fundraising and Communications at the charity comments:

We are delighted when a local business decided to support our work. Society as a whole is becoming increasingly aware of Autism spectrum disorders and the challenges autistic individuals face. We operate across the region to support these individuals directly, but also training and supporting those around them.

He adds,

So much of the work we do depends on vital philanthropic support from individuals and organisations so we’d like to say a huge thank you to Ellis-Fermor & Negus in advance of what we know will be a successful year of partnership.

Autism East Midlands actively look for new ways to support individuals and families affected by autism. For more information and how you can support the charity, please visit:
