Duncan Passes on the Baton – Now in Luke’s Trusted Hands

The Wills and Probate team at Ellis-Fermor and Negus are entering an exciting new chapter, as Luke Smyth is passed the baton from our retired Director, Duncan Lyon.

The handover to Luke has been a carefully managed transition, ensuring clients will continue to receive the same trusted advice and dedicated service that they have long associated with Ellis-Fermor & Negus.

Luke is an experienced solicitor who qualified as a solicitor in 2014 and has worked in the legal industry since 2005. Luke joined Ellis-Fermor & Negus in May 2023, drawn by what he describes as the firms ‘longstanding reputation for excellence – not only among other law firms but also within the local communities it serves.’

Reflecting on the firm’s commitment to its communities, Luke explains: ‘At EF&N, we want our clients to know that we’re working hard for them – whether we’re drafting a will for someone who is housebound or finalising a trust created decades ago. Our goal is always to achieve the best possible outcome with compassion and care.’

During the transition, Duncan worked tirelessly to advise Luke on his caseload and provide him with dedicated guidance as to the history of each case. Luke acknowledges this support, saying: ‘I have been well placed to be able to drive matters forward for our clients and to hopefully progress matters seamlessly.’

Luke has taken great inspiration from Duncans approach and legacy: ‘He was incredibly diligent in his work but, at the same time, he was also empathetic in dealing with clients, particularly bereaved individuals. Whilst I can only hope to aspire to achieve the respect he has quite rightly earned, I sincerely hope that I can offer the same level of kindness and support which he did.’

Looking ahead, Luke is eager to continue helping families across Ripley and the wider Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire areas. Luke reflects ‘It must not be forgotten that very often we are dealing with bereaved people from the outset and that being in a position to be able to help honour their loved ones’ wishes is a true privilege and one that should not be taken lightly.’

Luke and the team remain dedicated to upholding Ellis-Fermor and Negus Solicitors tradition of excellence.
